Two Rivers
The preserve protects sagebrush steppe, wetland meadow, riparian, aspen, and mixed conifer forests that support a variety of wildlife including bi-state sage grouse, rocky mountain mule deer, black bear, bald eagles, trout, red fox, mountain lion, and more.
In 2015, The Wildlands Conservancy acquired the original 150-acre Two Rivers Preserve at the confluence of the West Walker and Little Walker Rivers to protect the property from being subdivided for several trophy vacation homes. Additionally, the appurtenant annual water rights to divert 40 acre-feet of water from the Walker River for agricultural uses will be left in the river for the benefit of the threatened Lahontan cutthroat trout.
The expansion provides the opportunity for The Wildlands Conservancy and its partners to focus on a vast assortment of conservation projects including wetland meadow restoration, protecting mule deer migration corridors, sage grouse habitat restoration, population recovery for Lahontan cutthroat trout, improve instream flows to benefit the Walker River Basin, and more.
