Whitewater Docent Program

As spring is a time of new beginnings, in that same spirit we want to invite you begin your journey to becoming a volunteer docent here at Whitewater Preserve!

The Wildlands Conservancy's docents are volunteers who share their love and enthusiasm for our desert preserves with visitors of all ages.

The word docent comes from the Latin word docere, meaning "to teach." Education docents teach or interpret the natural world for student groups and families in outdoor education programs and they help all visitors make their most of their time at our preserves. Groundskeeping docents tend to the land, and when approached by visitors facilitate discussions that grow their understanding and appreciation of the preserve.

Every year we hold docent trainings to prepare volunteers for these important jobs. All you need to become a docent is time and the willingness to learn and share with others!

Help us meet our mission to provide exemplary environmental education that helps students and families increase their knowledge of the natural world, sharpen their outdoor skills and deepen their commitment to the preservation of our remarkable desert preserves. If you are interested in getting more information about the program or the trainings, please fill out the interest form below.
