Get Outside for Some Wildflowers
Despite a dry and warm winter season, and the Whitewater River currently not flowing above ground, the wildflowers at Whitewater Preserve continue to flourish this spring. The hillsides are covered by beautiful yellow flowering brittlebush. The trails are lined with a number of wildflowers that are being enjoyed by our visitors, animals, and pollinators!
While it can be extremely tempting to pick these beautiful wildflowers we must remember that most of our wildflowers are annuals, meaning they only grow once during the spring season then die off. Most of these wildflowers rely on their growing season to be able to produce seeds for future generations of wildflowers to be established and grow. Picking wildflowers can diminish the population and also affects the animals and pollinators that rely on them for food.
We want the wildlife as well as our visitors to enjoy these beautiful wildflowers this spring and for generations to come. So, make sure you are responsibly enjoying them from the trail to avoid trampling, and take lots of pictures since they are only here for the season!
