Since The Wildlands Conservancy acquired Seawood Cape Preserve in 2019, our vision for this stunning coastal landscape has been to offer a safe haven for native wildlife and plants, to aid in their persistence on the land in the face of regional development, to be a living laboratory for local students of all ages, and to offer a venue for you to connect with nature for reflection, healing and inspiration.

Earlier this year, Wildlands proposed the Seawood Cape Preserve Public Access Improvements Planning Project to the California State Coastal Conservancy — a government organization and long-time partner that awards grants for projects that restore and protect the California coast, expand public access to it, and enhance its resilience to climate change. We are pleased to announce the proposed Planning Project for Seawood Cape Preserve has been approved!

Funds from the newly approved Planning Project will be allocated toward creating a public access plan for improved hiking trails and parking, coastal signage, an outdoor classroom, and a restroom. The project will also include organizing community engagement efforts to assist in the development of a free campground amenity. The Seawood Cape Preserve sits along one-mile of Humboldt Section 5 of the California Coastal Trail and a new campground will serve as an accommodation on this section of the trail.

The Wildlands Conservancy is dedicated to preserving the beauty and biodiversity of the Earth and providing programs for children, youth and adults to experience the joy of nature at no cost. We are grateful to work alongside our partners to further our mission in Humboldt County at Seawood Cape Preserve.
