GALENA PEAK WILDERNESS RESERVE

In 2018, The Wildlands Conservancy separated the 1,280-acre Galena Ridge from its Oak Glen Preserve, positioning this rugged rocky landscape to be managed like the adjoining San Gorgonio Wilderness. At 9,324 feet, Galena Peak is the tallest privately-owned peak in Southern California and its granite crags that are a lambing ground for bighorn sheep. This unique property includes Mill Creek Jump-off, an unstable escarpment at the headwaters of Mill Creek and the Whitewater River. Three-quarters-of-a-mile of Mill Creek runs through Galena Peak Wilderness Reserve, forming many enchanting water caves from the early spring snow melt. The unforgettable scent of the high piney backcountry emanates from limber, lodgepole, and Jeffery pines.
