San Emigdio Campground is situated near the entrance to San Emigdio Canyon between the preserve's Administration Center and The Crossing. The campground is comprised of twelve spacious tent campsites, picnic tables, potable water, flush toilet restrooms, and a dishwashing station. A small creek and pond meanders through the campground and there is plenty of shade provided by large cottonwood trees. Reservations and walk-ins are welcome. All campers must check-in at the office upon arrival. For walk-ins, there is no guarantee for available sites.


  • Tent camping only! No RVs and trailers allowed.
  • Camper vans/trucks allowed; max vehicle size is 21 feet.
  • Maximum people per site: 6
  • Maximum tents per site: 2
  • Maximum length of stay: 6 nights
  • Maximum number of sites a person can book: 2
  • Parking: 1 car per site
    additional parking avaiable upon request.
  • Campsites 1 and 11 are handicap accessible.
  • Propane grills, stoves, and portable propane fire pits are permitted year round. Wood fires only allowed when the fire ban is lifed, typically in the winter months. Charcoal is prohibited year round.
  • No showers available.
  • No electricity available; no generators allowed.
  • Preserve trails are closed after sunset.
  • Driving prohibited after hours.


Advanced reservations recommended (especially in the spring); walk-ins welcome. Call our Administrative Center at (661) 858-1115 to reserve today. Office hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Camping is free at the preserve; donations are appreciated.

Your entire group is not required to be present at check-in but they must arrive before the preserve closes for the day. Wind Wolves closes at 5:00 pm in the fall/winter and 6:00 pm in the spring/summer.
